Merton’s Community Associations sign new leases

At a celebratory lunch in Vestry Hall last week members of the Federation of Community Associations signed their new leases. Chair of the Federation, Linda Kirby, said: “Merton’s Community Associations are essential community hubs providing key services for local residents. Through the Federation we explore common issues including how to become more sustainable organisations and these 28 year leases offer real security and will enable us to attract external funding to continue to serve our communities”.

Beverley Burton, Development Worker at MVSC (which services the Federation) said "Getting to this stage has taken a long time and was a lot of hard work for staff and Trustees at the community centres, as well as staff from various council departments, but working together under Compact principles ensured we finally got there!”

James McGinlay, LBM Head of Sustainable Communities, thanked MVSC for their commitment to getting the job done and said he looked forward to working with the Federation during 2012/13 and further strengthening relationships.
