Preventing Violent Extremism
The Ethnic Minority Centre has successfully secured funding for the Preventing Violent Extremism seminar.
1st Seminar took place on Wednesday 19th May 2010 from 12.00pm-4.00pm at Vestry Hall.
2nd Seminar took place on 9th June at Taylor Road Day Centre,Taylor Road in partnership with West Indian Families and Friends Association (WIFFA). Over all assessment results from feeback these seminars were very successful and worthwhile. All together 35 people attended on 15 May and 66 people attended on 9th June 2010. The aim is to find the ways of developing greater community with and support for faith groups including stregthening interfaith contacts and build capacity and skills to work with those may be targeted in Violent Extremism.
It is reasonable to say that all the various faiths including Hinduism,Christianity, Islam,Buddism and Sikhism etc. remain the key players in the value system to the delevoped world, dominating the current world order. Their relationship to each other has a direct bearing on the course of polictical events. A better understanding of their different views can lead to a better chance for a successful communication between the followers of those groups.
EMC will run altogether 12 sessions on PVE to the schools, colleges, libraries and merton council chamber. The comments for previous seminars have been very encouraging i.e Excellent, interesting, very good. Speakers were very knowledgeable. People showed there interest that they would come again.
Next seminar will take place in 13th September 2010 from 3.00pm to 5.00pm at Merton Council Chamber.
