What We Do

What is Merton Hard of Hearing Group

We have  two main functions:

We  are a social club, where people can come and meet others with similar problems, obtain advice and support, and acquire information about services and equipment available to them. We arrange a varied  programme of activities.

We aim to:

· raise awareness of the needs of people with hearing difficulties

· promote better communication between hearing and non-hearing people

· identify and help all hard of hearing people in Merton

· encourage people to “register” with Social Services

· campaign for access to services, sports and leisure, arts, education, employment, hospitals, GP’s surgeries, transport, shops, etc. for all sensory disabled people

· ensure that hearing impaired people are not discriminated against because of their disability

· encourage shops and offices to install induction loops and display ear symbols to indicate that their staff are trained and willing to try to communicate with hearing impaired people.
