Mitcham Means Business

Mitcham Means Business is a London Development Agency funded project to 31 March 2009.

Regeneration office

We have established the Mitcham Regeneration Office at 177 London Road, Mitcham.

Aims

Our key target wards are Figges Marsh, Cricket Green, Lavender Fields and Pollards Hill.

We aim to deliver the following for local residents and businesses:

Employment support and skills training

Local residents will receive free careers advice as well as help with their job search such as producing CVs and completing application forms for employment. They will have free use of laptops, personal USB sticks and access to the Internet to update their CVs. They will also be able to watch group videos on improving their interview skills in the Mitcham Means Business Training Room.

Business support

A business support programme to assist improving local businesses’ performance, and a newsletter for keeping businesses and residents up-to-date with progress on the redevelopment of the town centre. Also, regular networking events that will engender town centre businesses with a sense of identity and community.

Environmental improvement programme

Including:

• temporary hard landscaping for part of the Fair Green that is not ancient green, to create a market square,
• refurbishing the Clock Tower,
• re-seeding worn parts of the Fair Green,
• improving the Fair Green border,
• anti-pigeon measures in the Fair Green,
• 3 town centre notice boards (one electronic), and
• replacement of street furniture.

Crime reduction

Establishing a crime reduction partnership to help reduce commercial and environmental crime in the town centre.

Partners in delivering the services at Mitcham Means Business are Merton Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise, Merton College, Prospects Ltd, Volunteer Centre Merton, Merton Adult Education and Kiara Training Ltd.
