Aim of the organisation
To: Promote mental health and well being
- To prevent mental health illness in BME elders and their carers
- To provide a range of socially inclusive activities and day care services.
The services provided will benefit residents from the borough of Merton.
Background to the service
Aces (African Caribbean Elders Service) caters primarily for people living in the London borough of Merton. The need for such a service is supported by local BME organisation, the motivation of the elders group members and the lack of facilities for black elderly locally. Merton Oasis was impelled to take on the challenge to bridge the gap left after the sudden closure of MACO in 2003. It is imperative that the needs of the Aces group is given the priority it deserves and resources mobilized if objectives are to be realized.
