"If it were between countries, we'd call it a war, if it were a disease, we'd call it an epidemic, if it were an oil spill, we'd call it a disaster. But it is happening to women and it is just an everyday affair". SLAWO intends to awaken every African woman to " Break the Silence because they have a Right to Safety"
 
 
 
Mission Statement
 
To eliminate domestic violence in the African community by increasing awareness about the extent and depth of the problem, making culturaly specific issues visible, strengthening comminty models of prevention and uintervention, identifying and expanding resources, informing and promoting research and policy and deepening our understanding an analysing of the issues sorrounding violence against women.
 
Objectives:
 
To promote and protect the physical mental health of African women and their children who have been affected in some way by the issues of domestic violence through the provision of a culturaly appropriate counselling service and emergency shelter.
 
 To advance the education of the public in matters to domestic violence inparticular into causes, remedies and prevention of domestic violence.
 
To promote research into domestic violence among African communities.
