United Nations Association - Merton Branch

We have meetings and workshops on UN-related events and developments.  In February 2008 we had four sessions on Human Rights (60th anniversary year of the Universal Declaration), and four sessions on the UN Global Compact in June (the world’s largest voluntary corporate initiative). In Merton Peace Week, we have a meeting on Human Rights and Responsible Citizenship (16 September); and after our AGM, speakers on Human Rights from legal and financial perspectives (13 October).

We fund-raise for UN-related causes including UNICEF, Refugees, and victims of man-made and natural disasters.

We lobby for political action to support the aims of the UN Charter (peace and justice for all).  Among our 2007 actions,  we were part of a lobby against the replacement of Trident and corresponded on behalf of Guantanamo detainees.

We co-sponsor a weekly Peace Vigil beside Wimbledon Library:

6:00-7:00 pm on Fridays.

Our branch members receive a newsletter (about four a year) with local, national and international up-dates.
